This is already occurring in essence.  The new agers Gnostics and occultists are all looking for the quantum leap -the huge paradigm shift that will evolve the elite or initiates into Christ Consciousness.  They literally believe they will become GOD.  Many of the popular charismatics believe the same thing but cloak it in Christian terms.  If you really look deeply into the teachings of the later rain movement you will see the teaching is identical.  As well, you have men such as Benny Hinn, Paul Crouch, Kenneth Copeland and a host of others actually claiming they are gods.  I need to dig up those clips and post them here...ahhhhh so much to do.
